"The National Junior Art Honor Society is about to add 19 Hillside students to its growing numbers.
The Hillside Innovation Academy will be holding its Chapter’s Induction Ceremony on March 28 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature Arts Ed NJ’s Visual Artist and Community Engagement Activator Monifa Kincaid as a guest speaker to highlight student achievements and shed light on the importance of art in schools and communities.
Membership in Hillside Innovation Academy's Chapter requires that students maintain a 90% or above in art class, submit a statement of interest, and attend weekly meetings. HIA’s chapter takes part in enhancing the aesthetics of the school with mural paintings, and art displays, and by contributing to the school newsletter and yearbook."

On Friday, March 15th, 2024, Stevens Institute of Technology visited Hillside Innovation Academy (HIA) as a part of the "Bridging Brilliance" Initiative with Hillside Innovation Academy! The Bridging Brilliance program is aimed at strengthening STEM pathways from Hillside to Hoboken, New Jersey. Led by Stevens Faculty Member, Dr. Karam, HIA Scholars will apply content knowledge and execute skills needed throughout the workforce while being exposed to rigorous STEM curricula! HIA's Bridging Brilliance is taking place from March 15, - May 17, 2024. Thank you, Dr. Thompson-Mettle, Dr. Karam, and Dr. Guerrero-Williamson from @followstevens for partnering with HIA. The HIA-Stevens Bridging Brilliance: Strengthening STEM Pathways from Hillside to Hoboken program, will be featured in an upcoming video!

HIA Student Government Association will host its first Girls vs. Boys Basketball Game on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Ola Edwards Community School. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
Hillside Innovation Academy (H.I.A.) grade 8 scholars had the opportunity to visit Newark Glass Roots recently. On this Arts and STEM based trip, students had the opportunity to learn beadmaking through flameworking, using a blowtorch and colorful glass to sculpt their own beads! Next, they visited the studio's workshop to create tile mosaics. In preparation for the trip, they explored radial symmetry in art class and applied this mathematical concept by repeating their designs from a small sketch. Mosaics were then grouted back at school. Lastly, they visited the "Hot Shop" where a glass professional glass blower treated them to a demonstration, sculpting a glass ornament right before their eyes! For all parts of their experience, students worked with professional artists and learned about programs they can participate in at Glassroots including Wednesday free classes, the high school apprenticeship program, and summer camps!

"Thomas Edison State University (TESU) is a recipient of a grant from the Department of Education (DOE) and the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE). The grant, part of the State Dual Enrollment Pilot Program, aims to create and expand high-quality dual enrollment programs across New Jersey school districts...TESU has been selected to collaborate with Hillside Public School District for the Career Connections Carpenter’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program currently being implemented at Hillside. Under this partnership, TESU has formed an articulation agreement with Hillside Public School District. Through TESU’s commitment related to prior learning, TESU recognizes the Career Connections program as equivalent to 16 college-level credits, applicable toward a certificate, associate or bachelor’s program either at TESU or transferrable to another institution."

Yesterday, (03/04/2024) Former Hurden Lookers students, now Hillside Innovation
Academy (H.I.A.) students returned to give a presentation on the H.I.A. school to Hurden Looker 6th graders. The H.I.A. students spoke about all the happenings at H.I.A., classes they can look forward to and are offered as well as all the clubs they get to participate in! H.I.A. students were on hand to answer questions from the 6th graders who are currently applying to H.I.A. H.I.A. students also walked around to answer some questions from groups of students!

Yesterday, February 29th, 2024, was the last day of the month, and Hillside Public Schools culminated Black History Month celebrations at Hillside Innovation Academy! Hillside Innovation Academy's celebration included poetry, live dance and musical performances, informative presentations, and a Black History Month-themed game of Kahoot! H.I.A.'s celebration was truly a spectacle, great work Principal Silva, Ms. Dotel, Mr. Joyner, H.I.A. students, and staff! More photos and content to come!
